The Montgomery County Firefighters Pipe Band Inc.

Organized in 2004, the Montgomery County Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums band is a non-profit organization comprised of public safety personnel who work within Montgomery County, Maryland. Our purpose is to display the true valor and prestige of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service not only through excellence in music, but through pride in ourselves, our organization, and the community in which we serve.

Our goal is to preserve the Fire Departments Scottish and Irish heritages through the music of the great highland bagpipes and drums. With the commitment and dedication to our music and our motto “Brotherhood through Music”, we will strive to represent every aspect of the fire service and its tradition with respect and honor.

Sergeant Hector Ayala

On Friday, April 9th, members of the Pipe Band performed with other bands honoring MCPD officer, Sgt Hector Ayala.  Sgt Ayala passed away in the line of duty on Sunday, April 4, at approximately 2:21 a.m.  Montgomery County Police officers from the 4th District were responding to a large fight in progress.  An officer, who had arrived on the scene of the fight, radioed that he needed assistance and requested that additional officers respond.  While responding to assist his fellow officer, Officer Ayala was involved in a single-vehicle collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Officer Ayala, a 4th District midnight officer, was traveling westbound on Randolph Road approaching Denley Road.  For reasons still under investigation, the officer's 2003 Ford Crown Victoria left the roadway and struck a tree on the right side of the roadway in the 3000 block of Randolph Road.  Officer Ayala was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officer Hector Ayala was a seven-year veteran of the Montgomery County Police Department.

The members of the MCFFP&D continue to keep Officer Hector Ayala's family members, friends and his extended MCPD family in our thoughts and prayers.

Brother Scott Doyle Commemorated

Saturday, November 21, 2009  Our Brother and first Pipe Major C. Scott Doyle was memorialized on Saturday the 21st of November, 2009 at the Saint Francis Church in Potomac, Maryland. The weather was phenomenal and the sound of the great highland bagpipes and drums sounded as family, friends and co-workers gathered to remember this great man; who brought smiles to so many faces throughout his life.

Members of MCFF Pipes and Drums were among over 50 Pipers and Drummers who were present to help play Scott home. The sound of tunes like Highland Cathedral (Scott’s favorite), Amazing Grace and Minstrel Boy were played beautifully during the church service. Scott was given his final march as the joint pipes and drums band paraded up River Road as a tribute from his brothers and sisters.

The Celebration of Scott’s Life took place shortly after the service where stories were told and toasts were made honoring Scott. The celebration would not have been complete without the playing of Dropkick Murphy’s and more pipes and drums. It was a commemoration that Scott would be proud of.

To the Doyle Family, the “Pipe Band” would like to give our heartfelt thanks for allowing us to be a part of your family. From day one, Scott put his heart and soul in to ensuring the success of this organization and without your support we would be where we are today and we would be doing Scott an injustice if we didn’t play the best we can every time we pick up our instruments.

To the members of the Scott Doyle Memorial Pipes and Drums Band, the send off would not have been what it was without you. We cannot begin to thank you enough for all your support during the past six months and it was nothing less than comforting to know we have your support. The following bands and individuals came together to form the memorial band:
Fire Brigade Pipes and Drums of Greater Baltimore

Northern Virginia Emerald Society Pipes and Drums

Washington DC Emerald Society Pipes and Drums

Frederick County Firefighters Pipes and Drums

Camden County, NJ Emerald Society Pipes and Drums

Boise Firefighters Pipes and Drums

Fairfax Sheriff's Coalition Pipes and Drums
