The Montgomery County Firefighters Pipe Band Inc.

Organized in 2004, the Montgomery County Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums band is a non-profit organization comprised of public safety personnel who work within Montgomery County, Maryland. Our purpose is to display the true valor and prestige of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service not only through excellence in music, but through pride in ourselves, our organization, and the community in which we serve.

Our goal is to preserve the Fire Departments Scottish and Irish heritages through the music of the great highland bagpipes and drums. With the commitment and dedication to our music and our motto “Brotherhood through Music”, we will strive to represent every aspect of the fire service and its tradition with respect and honor.

The Passing of Chief Tom Carr

Thursday, April 25, 2013

As a band, as a department, it is with great sadness that we share the passing of Tom Carr, past chief of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. To sum up the influence he had on not only the fire service but on the lives of the firefighters that served under him is too difficult a task for a simple man such as myself. I will instead defer to the words of our Pipe Major, Ivan Browning who wrote the following earlier -

"Chief Tom Carr, past Chief of Montgomery County Fire/Rescue and Chief of Charleston SC passed away this evening. Please hold his family and firefighter brotherhood in your prayers as the fire service lost a great man, firefighter and chief tonight.

My fondest memory is when the pipe band played our first gig which was for him in the courtyard of the old HQ. When we were done, he explained that another big city fire chief told him that Montgomery County is now a big time fire department because it has a pipes and drums band! And he just smiled the whole time.

He was our biggest supporter and is part of the reason this pipe band is where it is today. Chief you will be missed dearly in this world!"
